Kaleidoscope Theme

Let us rocket into space with Giorgio Armani Spring/Summer 2013 collection
Milan, Italy

Musty blue

Black stones
Sphere galore
It was a star struck opening at Giorgio Armani featuring his ready-to-wear collection called Kaleidoscope. Striding down the runway his pieces were oozing with fierce and elegance. There was a futuristic twist to his starry assortment.  His color pallet consisted of hues of metallic grays, deep blues and midnight black.  His collection inspirations comprised of chic oriental, sporty flare and one big galaxy festival.
One of his first themes incorporated an organza musty blue mandarin collar shirt with a metallic shade of gray blazer with darts along the torso; paired with a deep shade of silver oversized trousers and black patent leather oxfords. That wasn’t the only alluring inspiration on the runway- Armani was able to encompass a dazzling, starburst  effect on his lightweight silks and dreamy silhouettes.

Armani’s collection roared confidence with dreamy blues on his knee length short sleeve dresses overlapping sheer pants and a unique design detail wrapped around at the empire waistline.  Daring pieces- yet casual chicness flared the runway. True black brooches crawled their way onto 60’s style collarless blazers.  He concludes his journey from space with A-line glossy skirts with specs of spheres and shimmery stars.

The overall feel to his ready-to-wear SS2013 collection had a futurism sensation with graphic shapes that illuminate the galaxy. We will continue to see hues of metallic grays as the seasons change. Silk and organza will translate prints exquisitely.  Spring hats will flourish the markets in unique shapes and fabrics. Shades of blues and grays will dominate our wardrobes. The tunic style will become a fashion piece where one must have

Best of Armani

Texture

With a galaxy world and nature inspirations in mind- Armani had many textures on his silk and organza garments. The collarless deep V silver jacket featured an array of small geometric textures.  It resembles the leathery armor shell from the mysterious armadillo animal. The small cubic fabric swatches form a wave of intensity with shades of metallic silver.

Print and Surface Decoration

The collection was based around a space-age theme inspired by the dusky galaxy with glistering starts. Armani was able to execute his sphere shapes and starry specs onto fabric quite beautifully. The prints of his glossy, sheer, natural fibers complied well with his futuristic graphic shapes.

Shapes as Inspiration

One of Armani’s final looks introduced an abstract take on the universe. It was all about the layering of the organza fabrics with its sphere shape prints and shimmery black jackets. The look was styled with a metal wire wrapped around the silhouette of the garment with planet like shapes.  Oh- how Armani accomplished his mission by landing the futuristic theme and creating an outer space atmosphere.

Cultural Influences

Armani had one major theme- a glimmer galaxy world. He was able to incorporate glimpse of different time periods; 60’s and 90’s. One of his main silhouette cuts, design details and fabric choice are inspired by the oriental culture. Focusing on; silk, mandarin collars, tied fabric with a bow at the empire waistline and long tunic styles-Kimono (traditional form of attire worn by Japanese women and men for festivities).
